Florence Pugh Reacts After Andrew Garfield Brings Cardboard Cutout of Her to We Live in Time Premiere

Florence Pugh is caught in a web of laughter after seeing Andrew Garfield’s red carpet date.

While the Little Women actress couldn’t attend the Oct. 17 premiere of her latest film We Live in Time in London, her costar brought a true-to-size cardboard cutout of her to the event.

“It truly hurts not being there to celebrate the release but I’m raising a glass from very far away,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories. “Love to you all.”

Though the 28-year-old wasn’t happy about her lack of attendance, she got a kick out of Andrew’s sweet shenanigans at the BFI London Film Festival.

“Lol. Genius,” she wrote in an Instagram Story of The Amazing Spider-Man alum holding the cardboard cutout under one arm and giving the camera a surprised expression. “Well done Andrew!”

In another Instagram Story, Florence reposted an image of the actor holding his arms open towards the cutout to show it off to the red carpet paps.

“Hahahahahah,” she wrote beneath the post, undeniably amused by the 41-year-old’s refusal to fly solo at the premiere.

The highly anticipated film tells the emotional love story of Tobias (Andrew) and Almut (Florence) over the span of decades. Just from a quick watch of the trailer, it’s clear that the movie will be utterly gut-wrenching.

In the trailer released on July 10, the pair meet in the hospital after Almut accidentally hits Tobias with her car. The unfortunate accident ignites a flame between the two, and their lives become instantly intertwined.

“Whether we like it or not, the clock is ticking,” Andrew’s character says to Florence’s. “There’s a very distinct and real possibility that I am about to fall in love with you.”

Though the touching tale has many ups and downs—with the couple having to navigate starting a family and later grappling with Almut’s character being diagnosed with a terminal illness—Florence is incredibly proud of her performance.

“I hope you enjoy watching as much as we enjoyed making,” she wrote on Instagram. “Everyday I went to work appreciative for that experience, grateful for all of those I was working alongside, touched that I was a part of making a story like this. It truly felt like magic.”
