Liam Payne’s Ex Aliana Mawla Shares Emotional Tribute to Singer After His Death

Liam Payne’s ex-girlfriend Aliana Mawla is remembering the One Direction singer.

The model, who dated Payne in 2022 following his split from his ex-fiancee Maya Henry, took to her Instagram Stories to honor the British musician.

“I’m sorry this happened to you,” Mawla wrote on a photo of Payne at a concert looking out over the crowd. “Will forever love & miss you.”

She also shared a photo of her hand and Payne’s hands, which feature his “L” and “P” tattoos clasped together, writing, “Rest in paradise.”

On Oct. 16, Payne suffered a fatal fall from the third-floor balcony of his Argentina hotel. Buenos Aires emergency services chief Alberto Crescenti told La Nación that he had suffered “serious injuries” that were untreatable once responders arrived at the scene.

“Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life,” he explained to the Argentine publication in Spanish. “Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death.”

A toxicology report is still pending, but the former One Direction singer died of "internal and external hemorrhage," according to a preliminary autopsy viewed by CNN.

E! News previously reached out to Buenos Aires emergency responders but has not yet heard back.

Prior to his death, Payne was dating Kate Cassidy, who had been with him in Argentina up until two days before he died.

In the wake of his untimely death, Payne has received tributes from stars across the world, including his One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik. The group formed in 2010 after meeting on The X-Factor and went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016.

“For the record, Liam was in my opinion the most vital part of One Direction,” Tomlinson wrote in his tribute. “His experience from a young age, his perfect pitch, his stage presence, his gift for writing. The list goes on. Thank you for shaping us Liam.”
