NFL tight end Foster Moreau steps away from football to battle Hodgkin lymphoma
In a shocking announcement, free-agent tight end Foster Moreau revealed on social media that he has Hodgkin lymphoma and will be stepping away from football to fight the disease. The diagnosis came during a routine physical conducted by the medical team of the New Orleans Saints.
In a tweet, Moreau expressed his gratitude for the support he has received and his determination to fight the new opponent: cancer. He wrote, "I'll go kick this thing's ass and get back to doing what I love! AMDG!"
Moreau, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 draft by the Raiders, has had an impressive career so far with 91 catches, 1,107 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns over four seasons. He had a career-high of 33 receptions through 15 games for Las Vegas last season.
Despite his on-field achievements, Moreau's teammates and coaches have been quick to praise his character off the field. He is known for his gregarious personality and work ethic, even stepping in as a starter frequently over the last two seasons as fellow tight end Darren Waller battled injuries. He has also been a source of stability for the Raiders during difficult times, including the COVID-19 pandemic and incidents involving former head coach Jon Gruden, Henry Ruggs III, and Damon Arnette.
It remains to be seen how Moreau's battle with cancer will affect his future in the NFL. But one thing is certain, the outpouring of support from his fans, friends, and colleagues will undoubtedly help him in his fight against Hodgkin lymphoma.
