Ja Morant's ‘redemption’ after bench role. A mental break for Ja or breakthrough for Grizzlies?

The Memphis Grizzlies celebrated their star player Ja Morant's return to the court in style as they took down the Houston Rockets with a 130-125 win. While the Grizzlies' coach Taylor Jenkins could have easily included Morant in the starting lineup, he decided to bring him off the bench due to a minutes restriction. This approach allowed Morant to manage his limited minutes more efficiently and be in the game's final stages. However, Morant had additional reasons to begin the game seated on the bench besides his minutes' restriction and Tyus Jones' excellent skills.

Firstly, Morant and Jenkins believed that the Grizzlies had been playing incredibly well without him. Morant also proposed starting on the bench since the team had momentum without him. Secondly, Morant needed the game to start this way for his own well-being.

Morant had a tough time during his suspension due to his involvement in a gun-related incident and demanded that he had no alcohol-related issues. During his time away from the game, Morant sought counseling in Florida to manage his "stress" and channel his emotions. Meditating helped him cope with his emotions and feel good when he returned to the game.

Morant's family, uncle, and daughter sat courtside with hoodies bearing his picture and the word "redemption" during his return. The hoodie was a symbol of Morant's comeback after negative statements about him throughout his entire year and a half with the Grizzlies. He shared his gratitude and thanked everyone who supported him during the challenging time.

Morant also spoke about his mental well-being, and it was essential to him as a person. He talked about the stress that comes with being an NBA player and how it affected his performance.
