BWF World Championship 2021, Day 7: After a mixed day 6, the action in the BWF World Championship 2021 moves to the medal stages with two Indians taking on each other for a berth in the final of men's singles. Ace shuttler Kidambi Srikanth and 20-year-old Lakshya Sen will square off in the first semi-final on Saturday.
Earlier on Friday, reigning women's singles world champion PV Sindhu was knocked out in the quarters after no.1 shuttler Tai Tzu-ying of Taiwan eased past the Indian in straight games. HS Prannoy -- another Indian in the men's singles draw -- faced a 21-14 21-12 defeat to Singapore's Loh Kean Yew.
The match between Kidambi and Lakshya ensures a first Indian men's participation in the final of the BWF World Championship.
In his quarterfinal on Friday, Kidambi hardly broke a sweat as he cruised past The Netherlands' Mark Caljouw in straight games (21-8 21-7) in merely 26 minutes. However, Lakshya had to fight off stubborn Chinese shuttler Zhao Jun Peng, recovering from two match-points down to win 21-15 15-21 22-20.
