Mirabai Chanu hopes Deepika Padukone or Alia Bhatt play her in biopic
A lot has changed for weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu since her silver finish at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The best, she says has definitely been young girls saying, ‘Main Mira didi jaisa banna chahti hun’. “Bahut achha lagta hai. Maine apne family aur India ke liye medal jeeta hai. Kaafi log pehchaante hain ab, toh wohi bahut bada achievement lagta hai, especially chhote chhote bachhe jab aate hain milne,” she says, sharing how her new, higher weight category (55kg) is challenging, but she is ready to give it her best.
Chanu’s Olympic medal last year was won in the 49kg category, and returning to her winning streak, she recently shone at the Singapore International Weightlifting tournament. And this adds to the list of reasons why she has been receiving calls from Bollywood for a film inspired by her life.
The 27-year-old Padma Shri awardee, who has two medals in the Commonwealth Games, including the gold at Gold Coast (Australia) in 2018, says, “Bollywood se calls aayi hain par abhi kuch final nahi hua hai.... Deepika (Padukone, actor) mujhe bahut pasand hai. Agar Deepika and Alia Bhatt (actor), in dono mein se koi ho mujhpe bani film mein toh chalega.”
Chanu also shared how she hadn’t visited her home two years before the Olympics and is now back to the grind at Patiala. “Kuch paane ke liye kuch khona bhi padta hai. Desh ke liye kuch karna hai, toh discipline mein rehna padta hai,” she concludes.
