Blake Lively Reveals Gen Z Makeup Trick Behind CFDA Look
If there’s one secret Blake Lively will always tell, it’s a go-to makeup hack.
The It Ends With Us actress made her return to the CFDA Fashion Awards for the first time in 10 years on Oct. 28, donning a white Michael Kors dress, accessorized with diamonds and a white coat. And while gushing over Carolina Gonzalez’s impeccable makeup job, she reflected on the not-so-successful methods she previously used to achieve a similar look.
“When @cgonzalezbeauty does the Gen Z eye shadow lip trick to make your lips look huge,” she wrote in a caption for a photo posted to her Instagram story on Oct. 28, “but then…”
“You wash off your makeup & accept,” Blake, 37, continued over a fresh face selfie, “that you’re a millennial who, in high school used to wear lip gloss with alarming amounts of chili peppers inside for a plump because we were THAT committed to bad ideas.”
While, indeed, hot peppers were a go-to for many millennials looking for plumping lips, Gen Z has found another trick: using an eyeshadow in place of lip liner to accentuate your lip shape.
And Blake—who is mom to James, 9, Betty, 7, Inez, 4, and 19-month-old Olin with husband Ryan Reynolds—made it clear she’s grateful to be beyond the chili lips phase of her life.
“Turns out eye shadow is way less painful than Carolina Reapers,” she added. “Thank you @cgonzalezbeauty for not turning my mouth into an episode of Hot Ones.”
As a certified beauty icon, Blake has never been one to shy away from new trends, always encouraging others to try new things with confidence.
“Whether it’s fashion or beauty, if you’re not comfortable wearing it, you’re not wearing it with confidence and then the whole thing is shot.” she told Harper’s Bazaar in an interview published in December of 2013. “Whatever it is, if you wear it with confidence, then you look great. It’s meant to be a reflection of yourself and who you are."
