Timothée Chalamet Crashes His Own Lookalike Contest

Timothée Chalamet? More like Twinothée Chalamet.

A contest to find the best Chalamet lookalike was held in New York City Oct. 27 and had a surprise guest: The Wonka actor himself.

To the delight of the hundreds of fans gathered at Washington Square Park in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, the 28-year-old casually crashed the competition, as seen in photos and videos shared on social media.

Some 20 contestants dressed up as Chalamet as well as his movie characters, such as Willy Wonka from Wonka, Paul Atreides from the Dune films and the star's version of legendary singer Bob Dylan—which he plays in A Complete Unknown, a biopic he finished filming in New York City this past spring.

The real Chalamet initially made his way through the crowd incognito, wearing a black mask and baseball hat. He then sneaked up on two doppelgangers posing for photos and removed his mask, prompting shrieks from onlookers, Variety reported. The actor then posed for pics with several contestants and other fans.

The competition was fierce and did not rely on looks or costumes alone. Per the Associated Press, four finalists were asked about their French proficiency—Chalamet, whose father is from France, can speak the language well—their plans to make the world a better place and their romantic intentions with Kylie Jenner, who began dating the actor more than a year ago.

Ultimate, Miles Mitchell, 21, won the contest. The Staten Island resident dressed as Wonka and was given an enormous novelty-size check for $50 written out to “Best Tim," the AP said.

"I'm excited and I’m also overwhelmed," Mitchell was quoted as saying. "There were so many good look-alikes. It was really a toss-up."

While the contest was promoted on Partiful, police arrived and ordered the crowd to disperse and also issued organizers a $500 fine for an “unpermitted costume contest," the AP reported.
