Nicole Kidman’s Babygirl Costar Harris Dickinson Reveals What It Was Like Filming Their Sex Scenes
Nicole Kidman was anything but a perfect stranger on the set of Babygirl, according to her costar Harris Dickinson.
In fact, the actor—who plays a young intern involved in a steamy affair with the Oscar winner's CEO character—believes the Nicole is "the most comforting, warm performer to work across from" as they filmed intimate scenes together.
“She sets the tone on set, and she makes it so easy to be vulnerable and to be funny, because she is so daring," Harris told Variety in an interview published Oct. 23. "She’s so brave, and she does stuff, and you’re like, 'What the f--k is that?' You can’t even think of it."
He continued, "She’s just got this innate sense of playfulness. And when you have that on set, everything's so easy."
Harris added that their sex scenes weren't very nerve-wrecking since they had also worked with an intimacy coordinator to "set the parameters of what we were both comfortable with" ahead of filming.
"The intimacy coordinator is saying, 'What are you comfortable with, what do you want as a director, what are you comfortable doing from that vision?'" he explained. "They’re facilitating that and doing it very delicately without interrupting the actual scene."
As for Nicole? She leaned on director Halina Reijn as well.
"Because the nature of that film, it was either going to be completely vulnerable and exposed, or you were going to be protected, and then the thing wouldn’t connect," she noted to Variety. "When I met with Halina, and we talked through it, I was just like, 'Just give us a safe space,' and then, 'Please don’t make me look like a fool.'"
But this wasn't Nicole's first experience with an erotic thriller. Back in 1999, she worked with director Stanley Kubrick on Eyes Wide Shut, which costarred Nicole's then-husband Tom Cruise.
"There’s something about being a woman in that equation," she told the Los Angeles Times in July. "And Stanley liked women. He had a different relationship with Tom. They worked more closely together on his character."
