Greg Mathis Jr. Marries Elliott Cooper in Intimate Ceremony in Mexico
Greg Mathis Jr. and Elliott Cooper are now each other's forever family.
The Mathis Family Matters star and his longtime love officially said "I do" during an intimate wedding ceremony with their immediate family in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on Oct. 21.
"We're so thankful for your love and support as we've gone from Washington, DC, to Mathis Family Matters," Greg and Elliott wrote in a joint Instagram post on their wedding day, "and now to officially starting our family in Los Angeles. Your support means everything!"
And for Greg, 35, and Elliott, 40—who first met in 2016—making sure their wedding felt like a family trip was incredibly important to them.
"Family is one thing with Greg and I that really solidified our relationship in the beginning," Elliott told People in an interview published Oct. 23. "Family is super important to me and us because we know that they love us and we love them without any hanging things. It's not transactional, it's just pure."
And the couple took it a step further by having family involved in the wedding, as Greg's father Judge Greg Mathis Sr. and Elliott's father Sergeant Calvin Cooper officiated the ceremony.
"Because my dad is a judge—a famous one too—he's officiated everyone else's wedding," Greg explained. "And so I have always seen him in all these weddings across the country and I've just always had his vision in my mind of when I get married. [I thought], 'I hope that the person I marry is going to be okay with this because I want my dad to officiate my wedding.'"
He continued, "And Elliot's dad is actually in law enforcement too, which is funny. It's a note about us that we always laugh about."
Greg and Elliott also wanted to get married in a location that held a special meaning for them, which is why they chose Cabo, as it was the site of their first trip as a couple. (Elliott surprised Greg with a Cabo vacation for his birthday.)
And as the couple is taking time to reflect on their special day, they were overwhelmed by the experience.
"I would definitely say it's a dream come true," Greg gushed. "I know that's cheesy, but it is. It's everything I've ever wanted."
But the celebrations won't end there as the newlyweds are planning a larger celebration in Los Angeles. Plus they are looking ahead to what their future holds.
"We're talking more about kids as far as the next big chapter," Elliott revealed, "and then just continuing to really grow together."
Fans of the couple got to watch Greg and Elliott's relationship blossom on the show Mathis Family Matters, which followed the lives of Greg, his father, mother Linda Mathis and his siblings Jade, 39, Camara, 36, and Amir, 34.
On the show's season finale, Elliott even got down on one knee to ask Greg a very important question.
"We've been together for a very long time," Elliott began. "We've been through a whole lot together. I couldn't be here without you, and with that, I wanted to ask, will you–move to L.A. with me?"
Greg's family burst into laughter as he gave an enthusiastic, "I sure will!"
