16 and Pregnant Alum Autumn Crittendon’s Cause of Death Revealed
Autumn Oxley Crittendon’s cause of death has been determined.
The 16 and Pregnant star—who died July 20 at her home in Henrico County, Va.—died due to drug toxicity from fentanyl and para-fluorofentanyl, an illicit synthetic opioid, according to the Virginia Department of Health, per TMZ. The health department also classified the nature of Autumn’s death as accidental.
Many illegal synthetic opioids—which create pain-relieving effects—are “more potent than morphine and heroin,” according to the Drug Enforcement Administration, and therefore can result in overdoses.
Autumn—who appeared on the MTV series’ fifth season in 2014 with her then-boyfriend Dustin Franklin ahead of the birth of their son Drake, now 10—was found unresponsive in her Virginia home in July.
“Once on scene, officers and fire personnel located an adult female unresponsive within the residence,” the Henrico County Police Division told E! News in a statement. “Members from Henrico Fire attempted life-saving measures however they were not effective. Autumn Oxley, 27, of Henrico, was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Days after her death, Autumn’s sister Misty Crittendon shared a Facebook tribute to Autumn, calling her a “beautiful baby twin of mine.”
“I won’t allow your memory to fade.. EVER,” she wrote in the post. “I fought for you your entire life and I will continue to do so until I join you. Best believe imma get you for leaving us so soon. But I’ve always got you, and the babies.”
In July, Misty also launched a GoFundMe fundraiser for Autumn—who described herself on Facebook as a “mother of two little boys Drake and Luke and a beautiful little girl Abigail—and her family, describing the day of her death as the day “our world crashed.”
“She was a beloved mother, daughter, and sister who will never be forgotten,” Misty wrote on the page. “To say it was unexpected was an understatement. It is and has been excruciatingly painful, to say the least.”
On Oct. 21—the same day Autumn’s cause of death was revealed—Misty updated her Facebook profile picture to an image of the pair holding their littles ones in the air and reminiscing about their special bond.
“We did it all together, even becoming mothers,” Misty shared. “Then we raised our babies together and they then did everything together. We miss you so much, beautiful. I love you more than you’ve ever known.”
