Arnold Palmer’s Daughter Reacts to Donald Trump’s NSFW Comments About Golfer’s Manhood

Arnold Palmer’s daughter Peg Palmer Wears gave her reaction to former president Donald Trump’s viral comments about her late father’s manhood.

“There’s nothing much to say. I’m not really upset,” the 68-year-old told The Associated Press in an interview published on Oct. 20. “I think it was a poor choice of approaches to remembering my father, but what are you going to do?”

Wears added that her father and Trump had shared “an interest in golf and a love for golf,” but that she only had passing encounters with Trump through the years.

Trump spoke about Palmer during one of his rallies on Oct. 19 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, the town where Palmer was born and took up the sport he became famous for.

"He was an incredible man,” Trump said of Palmer, “He was an incredible champion, and he came from Latrobe."

The current Republican presidential candidate continued to speak for 12 minutes about Palmer, even having a NSFW discussion about the impression the athlete gave in the shower.

“When he took the showers with other pros, they came out of there. They said, ‘Oh my God. That’s unbelievable,’” Trump said with a laugh. “I had to say. We have women that are highly sophisticated here, but they used to look at Arnold as a man.”

According to his daughter, Palmer—who died in 2016 at the age of 87— “believed in the Republican Party.”

“A day doesn’t go by that I don’t think about what my father would say about something or what’s happening,” Wears told the AP. “We didn’t always agree on things, but he was a quintessential American who believed fervently in this country, even when he questioned its direction.”

Wears previously spoke about Palmer's take on President Trump during a 2018 interview with author Thomas Hauser, saying, “My dad didn’t like people who act like they’re better than other people. He had no patience for people who are dishonest and cheat. My dad was disciplined. He wanted to be a good role model. He was appalled by Trump’s lack of civility and what he began to see as Trump’s lack of character.”
