Why Priscilla Presley Knew Something Was "Not Right" With Lisa Marie in Final Days Before Death
Priscilla Presley is opening up about her daughter Lisa Marie Presley's final moments.
The 78-year-old recounted the days leading up to the late singer's January death, sharing she had already sensed that something was amiss when the two attended a Golden Globes after-party on Jan. 10.
"I did know there was something not right," Priscilla told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Aug. 23. "We sat down and ordered drinks, and she says, 'Mom, my stomach hurts really bad.' We immediately got up and left."
Lisa Marie, whose dad was music legend Elvis Presley, died two days after the event at the age of 54. Her cause of death was ruled as complications stemming from small bowel obstruction.
On the morning of her passing, Lisa Marie was found unresponsive in her Los Angeles-area home and rushed to the hospital. According to Priscilla, Lisa Marie's first husband Danny Keough—who is dad to the musician's daughter Riley Keough and late son Benjamin Keough—was the one who called to let her know about the hospitalization.
"I got right in the car, but she was already gone," the Dallas actress recalled. "I still can't believe it. I don't wish this on any mother."
However, Priscilla said she was able to enjoy some happier moments with Lisa Marie before her death as well. In fact, they had quite the laugh before heading to the party at Chateau Marmont, which celebrated Austin Butler's big Golden Globes win for his portrayal of her late ex-husband in Elvis.
"We had just gotten there, you go down all these stairs," Priscilla remembered. "I tripped a little bit because I had these high heels on, and she started laughing so hard. I started laughing."
She continued, "It was fun, a fun memory."
These days, Priscilla takes comfort in being with her granddaughter Riley, who was rumored to have fallen out with the Elvis and Me author during a legal dispute over Lisa Marie's will earlier this year.
"Riley is now the executor, which should be right, obviously, being her daughter," Priscilla said. "Riley and I are on good terms. We were never not on good terms. That was all publicity. This is private and this is not something to fool around with and say that we're not agreeing."
The Presley matriarch added, "I'm there for her. She knows that."
